The Cursillo community at St. Charles has awakened, and is again sponsoring Candidates for three day weekends put on by Colorado Episcopal Cursillo. The word "Cursillo" is Spanish for "short course," which takes the form of a an intensive three day immersion in Christianity -- focused on the love of God through Jesus Christ. Teams of Cursillistas (the name given to those who complete a weekend) are formed to lead the weekends, but it quickly becomes evident who is really leading -- the Holy Spirit moves in a myriad of ways for all those who attend. Daughters of the KingThe Dorothy Day Chapter of the Daughters of the King holds its regular "business" meeting on the second Thursday of the month, and shares group Spiritual Direction on the fourth Thursday. Members complete the discernment process with the group as a whole, and when finished they take vows of Prayer, Service, and Evangelism. They wear the DOK cross as a symbol of these vows.
The Daughters of the King consider prayer to be their most important
objective. They maintain a lengthy prayer list and each member
attempts to pray the list each day. The Daughters gather in the
front pew of the church following the Sunday Service to offer prayer
for/with anyone who so desires. Music Ministries
St. Charles is blessed with many members who have
musical talents. These members share their talents through the
Adult Choir, Adult Bell Choir, and Children's Bell Choir.
Individuals also share their talents through special music selections
throughout the year. A Service
of Nine Lessons and
Carols highlights the season of Advent. Prayer GroupThe Prayer Group at St. Charles meets each Friday morning. Members pray for each of our parishioners, for our family members, for each of the groups within the parish, and in response to special requests. They pray also for the churches throughout Morgan County, for the churches of the High Plains Region of the Diocese of Colorado, and for all SAMS missionaries.Promoters of the FaithThe Promoters of the Faith are a group of parishioners who volunteer their time and services to care for the needs of our church. They prepare and deliver meals to members who have been hospitalized or are unable to cook; they send cards to and visit those who are recovering or are sick. They prepare and serve lunches for funerals. They organize the coffee hour after church services each Sunday, and they send "care boxes" twice a year to the parish's college students and members of the armed forces.Writer's GroupThis small group has been meeting on the second Tuesday of each month for several years. Using Larain herring's book, Writing Begins with the Breath, they have embarked on a journey in search of their authentic voices. Having discovered that the process is much more important than the product, they have also learned that their writing comes not from the intellect, but instead, as the author says, from "... our bodies, from our breath, and from our ability to stay solid in the places that scare us." |
